Member for Bendigo West Maree Edwards MP has visited the Newstead Rural Transaction Centre (RTC) to celebrate their new electric vehicle transport service, made possible by over $55,000 in funding from the Allan Labor Government.

Newstead RTC’s volunteer-driven service provides flexible, door-to-door community transport at low cost for residents in Newstead, Maldon and the surrounding region.

It serves as an important, environmentally friendly transport link – reducing emissions and ensuring that people can access services across the Mount Alexander Shire.

The EV builds on Newstead RTC’s other services, which include being a central community hub with access to government resources, a volunteer-run library, community spaces, local grants, and support for events and local engagement.

“We’re delighted to back Newstead RTC’s project, as we know the real benefit it will have for the Newstead, Maldon and surrounding communities in being better connected,” Ms Edwards said.

“I commend the Newstead RTC for providing this service, and I know how hard the volunteers work to ensure the RTC is a thriving community organisation.”

The Allan Labor Government’s Flexible Local Transport Solutions Program provides funding to help seed small-scale initiatives across Victoria that meet local transport needs, integrate with other local transport options, and improve transport access.

This year, $1 million has been provided to local councils and community organisations across the state as part of the Flexible Local Transport Solutions Program, to help ensure more connected communities.
