Cats will now have a new cattery facility thanks to an Animal Welfare Victoria grant.

Member for Bendigo West announced today that Mt Alexander Animal Welfare Inc. has been awarded $50,000 grant to replace non-compliant facilities with brand new ones.

Ms Edwards congratulated the volunteers at MAAW for their solid application for the grant.

“The work of the volunteers at MAAW is inspiring and I can’t thank them enough for their passion and hard work every day looking after the many animals that sadly come their way”.

The funding has been awarded as part of the first round of grants administered by Animal Welfare Victoria and is the sixth round of grants supported by the Victorian Government’s Animal Welfare Fund.

All applications for grants were reviewed by a panel of three department staff and one external assessor approved by the Minister.

Not-for-profit animal welfare organisations could apply for large grants of up to $50,000 and small grants of up to $10,000.

Grant funding can be awarded to projects that provide community education programs, animal relief services and facilities, facilities to promote dog exercise and socialisation, as well as upgrades to facilities to improve companion animal welfare.
