Maree Edwards MP, Member for Bendigo West today turned the first sod on the much anticipated new Castlemaine Men’s Shed.

Ms Edwards said the new shed will boost space for community programs and support the physical and mental wellbeing of locals.

The new Men’s Shed in Castlemaine is being built on a new site at the local golf club to replace the current facility which is too small. The building of the shed has been helped by the Andrew’s Government grant of $60,000.

Men’s Sheds are safe and practical places for men to meet, make social connections and actively participate in their local communities.

They also promote social inclusion and enhance the physical and mental wellbeing of men in local communities and are especially important in regional communities such as Castlemaine

The grant was part of a $1.2 million funding boost to build or refurbish 32 new or existing Men’s Sheds around Victoria.

Congratulations to the Castlemaine Men’s Shed Members who have worked hard to secure this funding and to the partners who have supported the project, including the Mount Alexander Shire, the Castlemaine Golf Club and DWELP.

I also thank the Castlemaine community for their support of this much needed project.
