The Andrews Labor Government will deliver more car parking at Kangaroo Flat station to reduce the daily scramble to get a park.

Member for Bendigo West Maree Edwards announced today that 50 new spaces will be built at the station to ease pressure on parking and encourage more people to get the train.

The extra spaces will support the growing number of passengers catching the train from Kangaroo Flat following the introduction of new peak hour services and Bendigo Metro, which changed stopping patterns so all weekday trains between Bendigo and Melbourne now stop at Kangaroo Flat.

The upgrade is part of the Labor Government’s Road and Rail Minor Works Program, which will deliver new car parks, more comfortable waiting areas and better passenger information at stations across regional Victoria.

The $22.5 million Program was funded in last year’s Victoria Budget, which provided $1.3 billion to improve public transport right across regional Victoria.

It’s the product of extensive consultation with local communities during the development of the Regional Network Development Plan – Victoria’s first ever long term strategy for better regional public transport.

Contracts are expected to be awarded by the end April, construction is expected to commence in late-2017, and to be completed by the end of 2018.

Earlier this year the Labor Government introduced 10 extra services on the Bendigo line as part of a new V/Line timetable which added 80 regional new services across Victoria.

In just over two years, the Labor Government has introduced more than 400 new V/Line services – better connecting regional Victorians to work, education and each other.
