MAREE EDWARDS RESPONSE – LABOR REBUILD AFTER 4 YEARS OF NEGLECT

As a member of the former Liberal Government that ripped $1 billion from our health system, it beggars belief that Mary Wooldridge would lecture anybody about health funding.

We are working hard to rebuild our health and ambulance system after four years of Liberal cuts and neglect.

Already, we have invested an additional $8.3 million in Bendigo Health Care, as part of a $2.1 billion investment across our health system in our first budget.

While we have seen improvement in Bendigo ambulance response times, and have improved emergency department performance compared to the previous quarter, we know we have more to do and that patients are waiting too long for specialist outpatient appointments.

You can’t cut $1 billion from our health system and not expect it to impact on waiting lists.

While the Liberals kept these outpatient waiting lists secret, cut funding and let wait times blowout, we have published this previously secret data, and are investing in our health system to try and turn these around.

These people were put on this waiting list by the former Liberal Government, with many then forced to wait for the entire term - no wonder they kept these lists secrets.

We're working hard to turn around the four years of Liberal neglect and cuts but there is still more to do.
